Admissions to the Secondary Education MA program for a new cohort in the Fall of 2024 will be opening soon! Please contact Dr. Cynthia Sanders, for more information and admission guidelines.

Secondary Education Program Requirements:

The Secondary MA program is designed for candidates interested in pursuing teaching and related professions after completion of a baccalaureate degree. The program coursework (30 semester hours), practicum field experiences, and student teaching internship (12 semester hours*) are designed to prepare candidates to serve in a variety of grades 7-12 educational contexts. Upon successful program completion, candidates are also eligible to apply for a Standard Teaching Credential (license) from the Office of the State Superintendent of DC (OSSE) for English Language Arts, Social Studies, and Mathematics.

*Candidates already working as a classroom teacher in their content area may be eligible to use their classroom context in lieu of the practicum field experience requirement and a portion of the student teaching internship credit requirement.

Subject/Content Area Requirements:

In addition to the MA coursework, candidates must satisfy the requirements for subject area coursework in English, History, or Mathematics needed for credentialing (usually 30-36 semester hours total). A Transcript Analysis will be completed by the candidate’s assigned Education advisor. Any additional subject area coursework requirements will be provided and reviewed with the candidate before they begin the first year of the program of study for the MA.

More details will be posted soon!
